Ahh, spring is in full bloom! This is such a beautiful time of year. Flowers are so delicately and divinely showing their colors, the sun is shinning and there are smiles everywhere to be found.

Winter keeps us homebound and indoors. When we become so usded to the indoor life, we tend to forget to reemerge come Spring time. Can you relate? If so it is time for you to get out and smell the roses!

Reasons to get outside and enjoy life:

Waterfalls- check the web and see where the closest one to you is!

Hiking- even a mile day hike will make you healthier and happier!

The Ocean- walk down the beach for an hour. If you don’t feel better about your day and yourself, then maybe you should stay for the sunset.

The Forest- when is the last time you hugged a tree? Exactly!

Get out of bed, get out of the house, turn the computer off and leave the office! Shake those limbs and move your feet! Spring is here!

Spring is here and artichokes are in season! Artichokes are packed with antioxidants! They are the highest in antioxidant levels amongst the best of the best. Artichokes beat blueberries, chocolate and even wine! These prickly vegatables are a best in Spring and are so easy to prepare.

Here is a simple recipe for a wealth of health!

Grilled Garlic Artichokes (Vegan & Organic)

  • 2 large artichokes
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black or cayenne pepper
  • DIRECTIONS

    1. Fill a large bowl with cold water. Squeeze the juice from one lemon wedge into the water. Trim the tops from the artichokes, then cut in half lengthwise, and place halves into the bowl of lemon water to prevent them from turning brown.
    2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Meanwhile, preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat.
    3. Add artichokes to boiling water, and cook for about 15 minutes. Drain. Squeeze the remaining lemon wedges into a medium bowl. Stir in the olive oil and garlic, and season with salt and pepper.
    4. Brush the artichokes with a coating of the garlic dip, and place them on the preheated grill. Grill the artichokes for 5 to 10 minutes, basting with dip and turning frequently, until the tips are a little charred. Serve immediately with the remaining dip.

This year at the annual San Francisco Yoga Journal Conference, they are adding something new. They are combining yoga with yoga. This “Spiritual Activation: Taking Our Yoga Practice Off The Mat and Into the World” is a great new twist for yogis. Being that yoga is everything, connecting the two seems like a great match. Especially with guest speakers who are very spiritually connected to Mother Nature. This years speakers include Katchie Ananda, Seane Corn, and my favorite activist Julia Butterfly Hill. Having lived in Humboldt County for many years, Julia Butterfly Hill is somewhat of a town celebrity. She is the woman who protested clear cutting trees by sitting in a giant redwood for two years straight without coming down. She made national press and has been speaking on Mother Nature’s behalf ever since. She is one of my personal heros. I had the opportunity to see her speak in 2002 at College of the Redwoods and I was so touch by her words. She is very connected to the earth and making the appropriate changes to save it. If you are in San Francisco on January 18, 2009, then you must go see her speak. She has so much wisdom and strength. - You will be inspired!

For more information about Julia Butterfly Hill and her book “The Legacy of Luna”, you can check it out here.

    Check out the conference here.

Also, what change are you making today? What is your meditation for action and how are you going to make it a reality?

    “Imagine…
that what we think we know
is only the scratching of the surface
    of a deeper pool
    of possibilities.”

An excerpt from Hill’s poem Beyond Boundaries.
